Cooking terms starting with the letter Q
Quahog
Native American name for the large Atlantic Coast clams.

Quail

A game bird.

Quart

A measure of volume in the U.S. system; 32 fluid ounces equal 1 quart and 4 quarts equal one gallon.

Quenelle
An oblong dumpling made from such a paste or other more modern and lighter pastes, shaped between two spoons, poached in stock, and served with a sauce and garnish.

Queso
Creamy cheeses or cottage cheese from Mexico or Argentina.

Quiche
A pie made with a butter crust and filled with eggs beaten with heavy cream and very smoky bacon.

Quick bread
Bread made with chemical leaveners (Baking soda / powder), which work more quickly than yeast.
